Win Bet A win bet is the most common and simple type of bet you are betting on a horse or greyhound to win race. Sportsbook or Bookemakers will offer odds on each horse which tell you how much you win if that selection wins. You then make a stake and if your selection wins you get your stake back + your winnings which are based on multiplying the odds and your stake. Win Bet Example If you place a $100 bet (stake) on Ona Jeune to win at odds of $6.80 and the horse looses you will lose your stake. If Ona Jeune does win then you multiply your stake ($100) by the odds (6.80) to calculate your winnings ($680). So your return is $680you’re your profit $580 from an initial stake of $100.
Place Place only is a bet placed on a runner to run 1st, 2nd or 3rd subject to field size. Eight or more runners will pay 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Five to Seven runners will only pay 1st and 2nd. Place betting is recommended by many professional betting systems. The advantage of betting place only is that you don’t risk losing the stake on the win part of the bet but if your selection does win you don’t win anymore than if it had finished 2nd or 3rd. This is also why place betting odds are much lower than Win bets. Place Bet Example If you place a $100 bet (stake) on The Hussler to place at odds of $1.80 and the horse looses you will lose your stake. If The Hussler comes in 2nd then you multiply your stake ($100) by the odds (1.80) to calculate your winnings ($80). So your return is $180, your profit $80 from an initial stake of $100.
Each-Way Bet An Each Way (EW) bet are two bets. A win bet and a place bet in one bet. A bet of $20 EW is exactly as it sounds - "$20 each way" - i.e. Two $20 bets. So $20 EW is a $40 bet in all. The place part of the bet is essentially a backup bet. You will receive a return on this part of the bet if your selection wins but also if it nearly wins This means that the place bet of your each way bet will pay out if your selection finishes in positions 1,2, or 3. If you finish 4th or lower it loses. Each-Way Bet Example You bet $20 EW on Rocket Fuel odds of Win-8.00 / Place-1.35. If your selection comes in first your return is 160 + 27 = $187 from a total stake of $40. If your selection comes in second or third your return is $27 from a total stake of $40.
Best Odds It guarantees the better of the official Bookmakers’ starting price (SP) and the official Win dividend declared by a TAB as nominated by the client. Best Odds Example VIC Tab paying $2.50, NSW Tab paying $2.60 & UNItab paying $2.75 then you would nominate Unitab for your Best Odds bet as it showing the best price.
Fixed Odds Fixed Odds is a set price at which the Win portion of a bet will be paid at the fixed price as determined by the bookmaker. Fixed Odds Example $10.00 a Win at the Fixed Odds of $3.20 will return you $32.00 and if the horse drifts out to $3.40 during betting then you missed the best price, however if it firms into $2.90 then you got the better price at the time.
Starting Price The Starting Price is an average of the on-course bookmaker’s prices taken at the start of each race. These prices are not known by punters at the time of betting. Starting Price Exmaple If you have $10.00 on a runner to win at SP and the final Starting Price is $3.45 then you return $34.50. If during betting the horse drifted out to $4.25 before firming again then you only get the SP price and miss the best price offered.
Top Fluc Best Fluctuation or Top Fluc, is available up to 30 minutes prior to jump. Bets placed prior are guaranteed to be paid at the top official on-course bookie fluctuation as determined by the Bookmakers Pricing Service (BPS). the Win portion will be paid at the best official Bookmakers’ price. For Win/Place wagers, the place portion will be paid at a price equivalent to the Tote Place dividend declared in the state in which the race is run. Top Fluc Example You have $10 a win on a runner at Best Fluc and during betting the fluctuations are as follows $3.45 | $3.65 | $3.60 | $3.75 then the Best Fluc is $3.75 which returns you $37.50.
